"Anna's Harlequins"
After "Poem without the hero" by Anna Akhmatova
This show is based on “Poem without the Hero” and other verses by poets of the Silver Age. But it is not just reading poetry outloud, but a dramatic reflection on the life of Akhmatova and her contemporaries, as well as the destiny of Russia.
Playwright – Alexander Erofeev
Directed by Elena Erofeeva
This is Akhmatova’s main work, which she has been writing and re-writing for almost twenty years and in which she is remembering her great contemporaries – Blok, Mayakovsky, Mandelshtam, Goumilyov, Kouzmin, as well as her friend (and to a certain extent alter ego) – actress Olga Glebova-Soudeikina. Akhmatova is reflecting torturously about the responsibility of the Silver Age, and her personal, for what happened to Russia in the twentieth century. And if “Poem without the Hero” still has one, it’s Petersburg, Petrograd, Leningrad, in which’s decorations the action unfolds.
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes without a break.
First performed on 15 May 2022.
